Thin frame
A single-block rectangular frame, the lightest border for surrounding a name, date, or central motif. Its understated line keeps all the attention on whatever sits inside. Open it in the editor to resize the rectangle to fit your design, add a second line for a double frame, or round the corners, then export a PNG or print the chart to stitch around your piece.

Perfect for
Skill level: beginner
A great place to start filet crochet. The motif is forgiving, the blocks are easy to count, and the design still looks polished once it is blocked.
Yarn and hook
For a larger thin frame, mercerised cotton in DK or worsted weight on a 3.5–4.5 mm hook keeps the blocks square while giving you a usable throw or cushion size. Traditional filet is a single colour, which keeps the block-and-mesh contrast readable, but you can always work the background in a second shade.
Project ideas
Use the thin frame as an even border around a name, date, or central motif. It suits a sampler border and works just as well on a name sign. Scale the grid up for a centrepiece or tile the motif for an all-over effect.
Who it's for
Think of a family, and occasions like a new home — the thin frame lands well for both. Pair it with letters from the alphabet set to personalise the finished piece.
Size, printing, and scaling
Expect roughly 7.5 by 5.5 inches at 4 mesh per inch. Drop to fine thread for a smaller piece, or move to worsted to scale it right up. Print the numbered grid to follow row by row, or open it in the editor to crop, enlarge, or tile the design before exporting a PDF or PNG.
